Pidgin (ex Gaim) è un software di messaggistica istantanea multi protocollo, compatibile con AIM e ICQ (protocollo Oscar ), MSN Messenger, Yahoo!, IRC, Jabber, Gadu-Gadu, SILC, GroupWise Messenger, e Zephyr; tra le funzioni peculiari di Pidgin, i Buddy Pounces, tramite i quali si possono ricevere notifiche, messaggi, eseguire suoni o programmi quando un utente specifico va via, torna online, ecc.
