Microsoft sta investigando sul proprio programma di beta testing. Sembra che il loro server , cui accedono non meno di 20.000 beta tester, sia oggetto di RAID da parte di presunti hacker, che mirano all'ottenimento delle copie messe a disposizione ai beta tester, per scoprirne codici ed eventuali bachi in anteprima.
Quale soluzione Microsoft, ha chiesto a tutti i beta tester , di modificare le proprie Password.
In ogni caso, Rick Miller , responsabile del beta testing ha cercato di minimizzare l'accaduto, affermando che in nessun caso sono stati effettuati accessi alla parte del server che contiene il codice sorgente, ed ai file sorgenti.

"They are not grabbing code; they are grabbing product, and it's going to be buggy and it's going to have problems," Rick Miller said. "This is obviously not good, but it's not terrible either."
"This is not the first time Microsoft's network has been breached. Microsoft's source code may have been accessed two years ago, when a hacker broke into some of the company's systems several times over three weeks. In January 2001, online vandals prevented many people from accessing Microsoft's network by flooding routers and servers with data. "
"We were right in the middle of beta testing its .Net server and that's going to be a centerpiece of Microsoft's future,"
